Step back in time and view a Thailand fishing community of Koh Sichang Island.  What is very notable about this fishing community is that you will not find any automobiles, KFC or McDonalds or even a shopping mall and you will be hard pressed to find even a neon sign. This to me is very refreshing!
To get to the island Departure is from Ko Loy in Siracha, about 30 km north of Pattaya. From Ko Loy, there's a ferry every hour from 7 am to 8 pm. Fare is B40 per person, except for the last trip, which is B50. The boat trip is about 35 minutes.  Google Map

Ko Sichang offers an easy weekend holiday from Pattaya or Bangkok.  The island isl Located  about 12 km. off the coast at Si Racha.  The island  has only one small town but otherwise the landscape is rugged and mostly deserted.  Ko Sichang does not have the classic tropical beauty of islands in the south but does offer a nice getaway. The South side of the island that is facing out to sea has some sandy stretches suitable for swimming.  There are some sightseeing options include the large and intriguing Chinese temple of San Chao Pho Khao Yai and the ruins of a royal summer palace built by King Rama V. The palace was moved to Bangkok sometime around 1900 and is now called Vimarn Mek Palace ("
This magnificent palace, built entirely of rare golden Teak, was designed by a son of King Rama V at the turn of the century. It was originally intended as a place for the king to stay on visits to the island of Si Chang in the Gulf of Thailand but was moved while still incomplete to Bangkok. There it served for a time as the royal residence during construction of the nearby Dusit Palace. The octagonal building - reputedly the largest teak structure in the world - was restored by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit as part of Bangkok’s Bi¬centennial Celebration in 1982 and since then has been open to the public. Vimarn Mek contains a fascinating collection of Royal memorabilia, including old photographs, furniture, objets d’art, and such curiosities as a large copper bath and the first shower ever seen in Thailand. (Vimarn Mek is open Wednesday through Sundays, 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.")

but the other buildings have been restored and remain on the island.  You can find overnight rooms on the island , comfortable guesthouses and bungalow accommodation is available in town and at various spots around the island. There is even a very comfortable hotel now on the island.
